✔ Your folders are scanned entirely on your computer.
✔ Your files are never uploaded.
✔ Your Excel reports stay on your device.
✔ We only collect anonymous usage statistics to improve TreeXL.
1. Data processed by the TreeXL application
TreeXL analyzes the folder you select (via right-click, drag & drop, or the "Browse" button) and generates an Excel (.xlsx) report describing its structure, file sizes, dates, duplicate files, and any inaccessible items or overly long paths.
All of this scanning and analysis happens entirely on your device. Specifically:
- File and folder names, sizes, paths, and modification dates are read from your disk and used only to build the local report.
- File contents are read only to compute duplicate-detection hashes locally; file contents are never uploaded anywhere.
- The generated Excel report is saved to a location you choose and is never transmitted to us or to any third party.
- TreeXL does not require an internet connection to scan folders or generate reports.
2. License and purchase data
TreeXL offers a Free edition and a paid PRO edition. Purchases are processed entirely by Microsoft through the Microsoft Store — Linfa Labs does not receive or store your payment details (card numbers, billing address, etc.). When you purchase or restore your PRO license, TreeXL communicates with Microsoft Store licensing APIs to verify entitlement; this exchange does not include any of your scanned file or folder data.
3. Diagnostic and usage data
TreeXL uses Azure Application Insights, a Microsoft Azure service, to collect basic, anonymous usage counters — for example, which features are used and how often, how many folders are scanned, or whether an export completes successfully. We use this data exclusively to understand how TreeXL is actually used and to prioritize future development.
No personal information is ever sent as part of this telemetry. Specifically:
- No file names, folder names, file paths, file contents, or scan results are ever included in the data sent to Application Insights.
- No personally identifiable information (name, email address, account identifiers, etc.) is collected or transmitted.
- Only aggregate, anonymous usage counters and technical diagnostics (e.g. feature usage counts, app version, general error/crash signals) are sent.
Application Insights is provided by Microsoft Azure and is governed by Microsoft's own privacy statement. In addition, the Microsoft Store platform itself may separately collect standard install/update counts and OS-level crash reports, also governed by the same Microsoft privacy statement.
If we change what this telemetry collects, or add any additional analytics or crash-reporting services, this policy will be updated before that version is released.
4. This website
This marketing website (the site you are reading this policy on) is separate from the TreeXL application itself and uses the following third-party services to understand how visitors use the site:
- Google Analytics — collects standard web analytics data such as pages visited, referral source, approximate location (country/city level), device/browser type, and time spent on the site. Google Analytics uses cookies to distinguish visitors. See Google's Privacy Policy and Google Analytics opt-out.
- Microsoft Clarity — collects behavioral analytics such as page views, session recordings, click/scroll heatmaps, and device/browser information, to help us understand how visitors navigate the site and improve its usability. Clarity uses cookies as well. See Microsoft's Privacy Statement and Microsoft Clarity.
Both services are configured to analyze website visits only — they are not embedded in, and do not run inside, the TreeXL desktop application. Neither service has any access to the folders, files, or data you scan with TreeXL; that processing remains entirely local to your device as described in Section 1.
This site also loads the "Inter" font from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com); loading these fonts causes your browser to make a request to Google's servers, which may log your IP address according to Google's privacy policy. Links on this page to the Microsoft Store are subject to Microsoft's own privacy practices once you leave this site.
Depending on your location, you may be entitled to control or reject non-essential cookies (for example via your browser's cookie settings, or a cookie-consent banner if one is shown on this site). If you have not yet added a cookie-consent banner for visitors in regions that require one (e.g. the EU/EEA under GDPR/ePrivacy), you should add one before enabling Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for those visitors.
5. Your rights
Because TreeXL processes your files locally and we do not operate our own servers that store TreeXL usage data, there is generally no personal data held by us related to the application itself to access, correct, or delete. For website analytics collected via Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity, you can exercise your rights (such as opting out) directly through Google's and Microsoft's own tools linked in Section 4, or by contacting us using the details below. For anything related to your Microsoft Store account or purchase history, please refer to your Microsoft account privacy settings.
6. Children's privacy
TreeXL is a general-purpose productivity utility not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if we add new features that process data differently. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
